| About DIX: Messages New | | | New Design | Aug 20th, 2007 | DIX has a new layout. These are the most relevant changes:
- The navigation is on the top
- Each dictionary has its own colors: blue (German-Spanish), green (Spanish-English), and orange (English-German, my favorite). Under "Preferences" you can always change the colors for each dictionary individually.
- You can choose the font "Verdana". This, in combination with the color blue and larger font size, is particularly helpful for people with vision impairments (many thanks to the users who taught me this!)
We have also added new forums for the German, English, and Spanish grammar.
Enjoy! | | myDIX - collect, practice, share | Aug 3rd, 2007 | The new "m"-Symbol on the right side of each translation enables you to create your personal dictionary "myDIX". When presenting results for your query, entries in your personal list will always be shown first.
You can practice entries of your translations list anytime and observe your progress.
You can alse share your list with others - a feature probably very handy for students. For example you can create a list for a specific topic, e.g. a book-chapter, and send the list to your students or collegues. They can then practice this particular vocabulary, or make it their own list and add entries.
You can label your vocabulary and - if you are a registered user - save it on the server for use in other browsers or computers. | | Welcome to DIX, the online English-German dictionary | Apr 8th, 2006 | This dictionary is free, fast, and growing! It offers you the following advantages:
- Translation of words, terms and sayings
- An intuitive user interface - no need to type accents or special characters, just type 'n' instead of 'ñ', 'ae' instead of 'ä', etc.
- "DIX-Live" - as you type, words in alphabetic order are suggested (use the arrow keys or the mouse to select one)
- A number of options are available to control the behaviour of the dictionary and can be set in the preferences
- Several forums for user discussions - e.g., to meet people or ask for translations
- A dedicated error management system allows us to quickly respond to error reports and thus constantly improve the quality of the dictionary
- The results are linked to additional resources for information about words, such as grammer, verb conjugation or context information
- User involvement: you can suggest new translations or vote and comment on other user's contributions
- The vocabulary includes terminology from approximately 40 areas, such as medicine or computer science
The initial vocabulary for this dictionary has been provided by Mr. Honig, alias Mr. Honey. We are very grateful his invaluable contribution!
